There is no confusion in the fact that smoking is very harmful to health. Smoking causes cancer and respiratory disease. From the day we stop smoking, a positive effect on our health starts appearing on the same day. It also increases the days of our remaining life. When we quit smoking, the effect of nicotine and carbon mono oxide from our body starts diminishing.

 Quitting smoking decreases the risk of coronary diseases, lung problems, blood vessel disease, cancer, stroke and so on. Giving up smoking is not an easy task, but it can be possible if we are serious and committed to our goal of leaving smoking. Quitting will help us to live a longer, healthier and happier life.

  1. There should be a clarity why we want to quit Smoking: Make a list of the reasons why we want to quit and make a poster and attach it to the wall of the room and read it daily because addiction to smoking is very hard to give up, Dedication and motivation about it helps very positively.

  1. Decide from when to quit smoking: Decide a start date and end date to quit. From the start date, we need to cut down the number of cigarettes day by day which we smoke each day. Try to smoke a half cigarette each time. At the end date, we need to quit completely, throw the rest cigarette, lighters, matchboxes and ashtrays.

  1. Prepare for craving: Make a plan for craving what we should do at that time because craving can make us weak and we again start smoking. So we need to plan it when the craving starts what option we have to avoid that moment. We can try to chew gum, go for a walk, clean our house, and squeeze a stress ball.

Avoid those places where we usually smoke, do not go with friends if earlier we smoke with them. Try to chew something like mouth freshener, chewing gum, candies, fruits and other things which help us deviate from weed.

Ask family and friends help: Tell our friends and family about our desire for quitting            smoking. Tell our friends to not ask us to join them in smoking,  Friends and family can be very helpful in this journey of quitting smoking because they will remind us about our decision.

Consult with the doctor: If we try to quit smoking on our own and we are not getting success, then doctors can help us with therapy and other medication.

Exercise and Physical Activity: We should exercise daily. Physical activity may help to divert us from the tobacco urge. Sometimes smokers have a lot of craving about the smoke that time they need to take deep breath and release, do it multiple times, The craving will run away in a few minutes.

We can also try to run, walk, running up and down from the stairs for 5 minutes, do household chores, do prayer, do yoga or other things which we like. These physical activities can help us to distract from the urge to smoking.

6. Change the brand of cigarette and choose one which we do not like, it will also reduce our urge to smoking.

8. Throw spare lighters and matchboxes.

9. Try to avert the things that lead us to smoke. 

10 Try to go to those places where smoking is prohibited, like a library, movies or mall, etc.

14. Try to drink more water and fluid it will remove chemicals from the body.

15. Try to keep ourselves busy in our interest area.
